Peterborough Food Partnership

The Peterborough Food Partnership is aiming to bring local food producers and local people closer together. The partnership currently works with, amongst others: farmers, farming organisations, social landlords, public health, Peterborough City Council, children's centres and food distributors. A city-wide food strategy is being developed to set out key goals and look at how they will be achieved by different partners working together.

Current projects

• Love Local - funded by the Peterborough's public health department and the NDLC (Neighbourhood Learning in Deprived Communities) this project works in target areas to educate people about healthy, local, seasonal food in an engaging, fun way.
• Food shop at the Green Backyard community garden. Set up and run by Peterborough in Transition the shop is open every Saturday and offers a range of fresh and local produce.
• Wild Food Map - an online tool to identify local sites for wild food foraging.
• Community orchards - supporting the planting and maintenance of new community orchards and raising awareness of the importance of locally grown food.
• Food Strategy - currently being developed to give focus to the efforts of a number of partner organisations to set out aims and drive forward key initiatives. A public forum and a number of stakeholder meetings have already been held to develop the strategy.

Documents

As part of Peterborough's aspiration to create the UK's Environment Capital, the city has created an Environment Capital Action Plan which sets out priority areas for ongoing improvement. Local and sustainable food is an important part of the Action Plan and this section has been drafted and passed by Peterborough City Council's full council meeting.
