Food Innovation Network innovation vouchers

Run by the Knowledge Transfer Network on behalf of the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) under its Food Innovation Network, the competition invites video applications for a chance to win innovation vouchers worth £5,000.

These support small food and drink business innovators with an idea to develop their concepts in partnership with researchers or academic institutions. Vouchers are aimed at pushing the boundaries in food business innovation to kick-start the next generation of food production. The money will allow food producers to invest in a wide range of innovative projects, such as reducing the use of water in growing vegetables, and creating new business opportunities.

All ideas must be novel, achievable and support business growth. They also must demonstrate the need for research and development, innovation in the proposed solution, path to commercial applications, nature of market opportunity and value for money.

Micro, small and medium sized food and drink businesses may apply. They must send a two-minute video pitch and a short description setting out their innovative business opportunity.

Vouchers are worth £5,000 each, with matching funding from industry, and they support projects lasting three to six months. The total budget is £50,000.
