Way to dough! The 10th annual, international #RealBreadWeek

Launched in 2009 and run each year since by the Real Bread Campaign, this time the slightly-more-than-a-week is from 24 February to 4 March, celebrating additive-free loaves and the people who make them.

What’s happening?

Bakeries, baking schools and other flour arrangers are encouraged to run Real Bread classes, tastings, feasts and other events to share the delicious delights of all-natural loaves. Everyone else is invited to get stuck in, either by buying a loaf of Real Bread from a local bakery at the heart of your local community, or baking your own.

Bakers are busy folk and so tradition has it that most will only post details of what they’re doing, when and where on the Campaign’s events calendar just before the start of the week. Highlights of UK events posted so far include:

• Bread Ahead Bakery School’s celebration and baking competition, Borough Market
• LoveBread CIC’s breadmaking in a day, Brighouse
• Bathford Village Shop and Café’s bakers’ question time, nr Bath
• Sacrewell watermill’s Real Bread Weekend, Peterborough, and Jordan’s Mill demo and tour, Biggleswade
• Scotland the Bread’s Soil to Slice Gathering, Edinburgh
• The School of Artisan Food classes, including an introduction to sourdough, and creating a successful microbakery, nr Worksop

• Out in the realm of social media, professional and home bakers are invited to post their 1-minute #dayintheloaf Real Bread video clips.
• Doves Farm will be running a Twitter competition and a number of companies have advised they are planning to do likewise.
• The Real Bread Campaign’s website features a list of baking schools and a Real Bread Finder map. The Campaign’s recipe book, Slow Dough: Real Bread is also available from the website.

Once again, Balcony Shirts will be producing t-shirts and aprons and making a doughnation to the Real Bread Campaign for each one sold. The exclusive ‘Team Real Bread’ design will only be available from Monday 5 February to Sunday 11 March from balconyshirts.co.uk
